Five Tips to Use When Oiling Your Paper Shredder

If you own a paper shredder, you probably know that it needs to be oiled on a regular basis. Here are five tips to use in regards to oiling it:

  • You must only use shredder oil when oiling your machine. Other oils (motor, vegetable, etc.) could damage your machine. At the very least, they can be messy to use.
  • Don’t use too much oil unless you want to make a mess or cause oil to pool in the waste bin. For example, lightly moistening a letter-sized sheet of paper and then running it through the machine should provide you with all the oil you need.
  • If you want, you can squirt oil directly into the machine’s feed opening. Then run a piece of paper through the feed opening to distribute and absorb the oil.
  • You need to oil your shredder on a regular basis to keep it in good shape. This could be as infrequently as once a month or several times a day, depending on how much and how often you shred.
  • If you have a large machine and find yourself oiling it a lot, you should consider getting an automatic oiler. It will make your job a lot easier.

Oiling your paper shredder is essential if you want to keep your machine in good shape. Follow these tips so you can get the most out of your shredder.
